Recent activity
Puerto Rico : a finder must hand the item to the municipal authority immediately, not to a police station, and the municipality publishes a public notice. Three months after that notice, an unclaimed item, or its value, is awarded to the finder, and an owner who gets the item back owes the finder one tenth of its value (31 L.P.R.A. §7966). (Civil Code of Puerto Rico, art. 749 (31 L.P.R.A. §7965))

Where to Report in Peñuelas
Here are the main channels. ReportLost contacts them for you.
Peñuelas Police Department
The local police precinct is your first stop for reporting lost property and filing a formal report. We provide the police with your complete description and loss details so they have everything they need.
Peñuelas Municipal Government
The Alcaldía (town hall) maintains records of lost and found items turned in by residents and businesses. We route your report to the right municipal department so it's logged in the system.
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport
If you lost something while traveling through San Juan airport, file a report there. Their Lost & Found office is open weekdays, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You can also submit a form online through their dedicated lost item portal.
Lost or Missing Pet
If you've lost a cat, dog, or other pet in the Peñuelas area, time is critical. The Humane Society of Puerto Rico and local animal rescues can help coordinate search efforts and shelter lookups. We recommend you file a priority lost pet report to reach animal responders faster.

The sooner you report, the sooner we search.
Every hour counts when something is lost. Once your report is in the system, our team coordinates with local authorities and community channels while your case stays active. You can focus on retracing your steps instead of making calls all day.
Report my lost item →Losing something in Peñuelas means checking in with the police, the municipality, local Facebook groups, and neighborhood contacts separately. Each office has different hours and procedures, and if your item isn't reported the same day, it can get overlooked. ReportLost simplifies this: one report, sent everywhere at once, and your case doesn't go cold.
What makes the difference is that your report doesn't just sit in one filing cabinet. It stays active for months, continuously cross-referencing new found items reported across the community and local channels. While you go about your day, your report is still searching for a match. If someone finds your wallet, ring, or phone and posts about it locally, you'll know immediately.

Questions? Here's What You Should Know
How long does the police keep lost items?
The Peñuelas Police Department typically holds lost property for 30 to 90 days before disposal. That's why filing a report right away is crucial, and why keeping your report active for months (as ReportLost does) increases your chances.
What if I lost my item at the San Juan airport?
Call the SJU Lost & Found office at 787-253-5637 (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4 PM), or submit a form online at sju.lostandfoundsite.net. They typically respond within 10 business days. We can help you draft the report and ensure all details are correct.
Can I report a loss if I don't speak English?
Yes. The Peñuelas Police and municipal government conduct reports in Spanish. We'll help you prepare your description in either language and ensure your report reaches the right Spanish-speaking channels.
How do I know if someone found my item?
ReportLost monitors community posts and local channels for you. If a found item matches your description, we'll alert you immediately so you can follow up. This saves you from checking Facebook groups and Nextdoor every single day.
What if my item was stolen, not lost?
If you believe your item was stolen, file a theft report with the Peñuelas Police Department. Include as many details as possible (where you last saw it, who had access, any witnesses). A theft report may also open a separate investigation path.
Is ReportLost.org official, or does it replace the police?
ReportLost is an independent service; we are not a government agency. We do not replace police reports. What we do is handle the legwork of contacting the right local authorities, posting to community channels, and keeping your report active in the search ecosystem for months. You still file official reports with the police; we help make sure those reports reach all the places that might have your item.
